2. General information on data processing
This website processes personal data only to the extent technically necessary. No analytics, tracking, or advertising cookies are used. Consent under § 25 TTDSG is therefore not required.
3. Server log files
When you access the website, the web server automatically stores the following data in server log files: IP address, date and time of access, requested URL, browser and operating system, referrer URL. This data is technically required and is not combined with other data sources. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in secure operation).
4. Map display (MapLibre GL JS & OpenFreeMap)
The interactive map uses the open-source library MapLibre GL JS, delivered via the unpkg.com CDN. Map tiles themselves are loaded from OpenFreeMap (tiles.openfreemap.org), an ad- and tracking-free, open-source map service based on OpenStreetMap data. When scripts and map tiles are loaded, your IP address is transmitted to the respective servers, which is technically required for delivery. No cookies are set and no tracking is performed. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in a functioning map display).
5. Application data (hospitals, population, accessibility)
All data used for the calculation (hospital locations, travel times, population data, accessibility metrics) is retrieved from a self-hosted server. No data is transmitted to third parties, and no personal user data is stored in the underlying database. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.
6. Data sources
The hospital and case-count data underlying this application come from the following publicly available sources (as of 16 August 2026):
- AOK Bundesverband: minimum-volume document – aok.de
- IQTIG / medical societies: Perinatal Centers Directory – perinatalzentren.org
Additionally, population data from the 2022 Census (Federal Statistical Office of Germany) and administrative boundaries (VG250, Federal Agency for Cartography and Geodesy) are processed.
7. Cookies and local storage
This website itself does not set cookies. MapLibre GL JS may use technically necessary browser-side caching (e.g. tile cache) solely for the map function. This storage does not require consent under § 25(2) No. 2 TTDSG, as it is strictly necessary for the operation of the map.
8. Your rights
You have the following rights regarding your personal data vis-à-vis the controller: right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20), and objection (Art. 21 GDPR).
9. Right to lodge a complaint
You have the right to lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority regarding our processing of your personal data.
